Central Illinois Woodturners (CIW) is a local wood turning club affiliated with the American Association of Woodturners (AAW). Our purpose is to invite, encourage, teach, learn and promote the art of turning wood.
We have a broad range of turners in our club from beginners to members with over 30 years of experience. We have members that welcome the opportunity to mentor.
We have an extensive library containing numerous education books and DVDs that are available to our members at no cost. Twice a year we host seminars featuring a professional wood turner. These seminars are an excellent opportunity to learn through instruction and hands on training.
Our meetings are held on the second Monday of each month starting at 6:30 p.m. We alternate locations between Bloomington/Normal and Peoria.
The Bloomington/Normal meetings are January, March, May, July, September, and November. They are held in Sprague’s Shop at 803 W Locust St, Bloomington, IL 61701.
The Peoria meetings are February, April, June, August, October, and December. These meetings are held at James Pearce’s shop located at 1000 SW Adams Street in Peoria. Access is actually off Maple Street between SW Adams and SW Washington. There is parking for about 15 cars in the alley behind the shop or you can park on Maple. Please bring your own chair to both venues.
Membership runs from January to December. Both CIW and AAW memberships are required. AAW membership includes a bi-monthly magazine and liability insurance to members at any AAW sponsored event. CIW membership allows access to the club library and discounts at the local woodworking stores.
